One Small Act
Green is Universal (NBCUniversal’s sustainability initiative) has created the One Small Act app to celebrate the fact that if we all make a small change in our behavior, it can have a big impact on the environment. Since NBCUniversal is a company dedicated to informing and entertaining our audience, we felt this app was a way to inform people about what they can do to ‘green’ their lives, and the impact it can have, in an entertaining way.

- With over 400 possible actions, the app allows users to set goals, track their progress and share achievements with friends via email, Facebook or Twitter.
- NBCUniversal stars – like Jessica Alba, Andy Cohen, Alec Baldwin, Brian Williams, and Anjelica Huston – will appear to offer green tips along the way, and the points system allows for virtual rewards earning like badges.
- The app also features the One Small Act Digital Garden that will be growing online and user’s pledges and actions within the app will contribute to the growth of the garden.
- During the month of December, the Share a Tree actions will be available to users in an effort to support the Arbor Day Foundation plant 1 million trees by December 31.
How does the app work? Glad you asked!
You can either download the app from the iTunes store or on your mobile device. The app helps its users by giving suggestions of small, eco-friendly actions that can be taken in everyday life. A user can browse the actions and set goals based on their personal behavior. Once they achieve the goal, they will receive the points associated with the action. The points indicate how big of an impact it can have on the environment, and in the description users can learn more about why it’s important.
