In honor of Earth Week, NBC Universal has partnered with Electronic Recyclers International, the Environmental Media Association, Hewlett-Packard, Staples and The School of Visual Arts to launch the "Green Screens" initiative, a recycling drive for collecting electronic waste.

Electronic waste, or e-waste is defined as all obsolete or outdated computers, televisions, cell phones, printers, PDAs, and any other devices commonly used in homes and offices.  While these nifty gadgets seemingly make our lives easier to manage, they are quickly filling up our landfills as we search for smaller, faster, more efficient models.  The environmental impact left behind... not so easy to manage... which is why we started Green Screens and teamed up with the experienced group of e-waste partners below.

During Earth Week, consumers are invited to drop off their unwanted electronics in recycle bins outside the Today Show studio in Rockefeller Plaza. A portion of the donated cell phones will be used to create a spectacular installation piece, designed by Kevin O'Callaghan, Chairman of New York City's School of Visual Arts 3D department, and his students. It will be constructed and displayed in the TODAY Plaza throughout the week of April 21st.

Our commitment to Green Screens will extend beyond Earth Week, so check back regularly for updates on our latest developments.
