I am very happy to hear we are starting as a city to go GREEN. This is better for everyone and everything. I think this is better especially for the earth itself. I am in the Bay Academy in Brooklyn NY, and Going Green is good for our planet!! I would love it even more if we grabbed everyone in New York City so everyone will know about this situation. Thanks for reading this and I hope our life as a whole gets better and better thank you for reading this

We live in North Bellmore, L.I. Are there sites on Long Island where we could bring our old computer? Is an electric typewriter acceptable?
Best wishes--this is a great idea.

what about cell phone battery re-chargers & any other electronics re-chargers? no mention of these. shouldn't they be included? thanks!

Have several 1/2 full cans of paint. Recycle at the dump on a regular basis BUT the requirements for paint are an ordeal. Any suggestions? Especially with the cold weather approaching. Not easy to fill cans with sand one by one only to go back to the dump. Not to mention to weight of the cans now. I don't have the time or the strength to fill up these cans one by one and then drive to the dump to dispose of them. There has to be an easier way.

Are there any plans to do something like this in the Westchester area in the new future?

I would like to know if there are drop off sites in Nassau County. Though I found this information on my New York City Department of Education email, I do not live in the city.

I would also like to know if there is someone who could actually use my old computer. It is a dell about 6 years old. It works, just slower than my new one and the screen was difficult for me to use because of my "old eyes".

thank you

This is a wonderful move for the city of new york. I am very happy that the organizers are taking these steps. However I think that the locations chosen to drop off the e-waste are not conducive to getting the most participants. In Manhattan- why not 14th street or 42nd street, in Brooklyn-why not downtown? Staten Island Mall is a good site. I don't know about Cunningham Park in Queens. I imagine there were many considerations that I am unaware of, but I hope next time locations are chosen that are well-known and easy to reach by most New Yorkers. However I would like to extend thanks and congratulations for organizing this event.

Make finding the location on website easier, please.

Please add more and better accessible drop off sites - Brooklyn.

LIST THE DROP OFF LOCATIONS

Will you also be accepting the accompanying cables and chargers, i.e., a cell phone charger?

Ghenaida Slack on November 13, 2008 5:35 PM

Will you accept an old washing machine?

What will happen to the computers when they are received?

Will there be separate dropoff sections for complete working sets vs broken/trashed one which can be donated to special needs individuals or non profits to re-distribute to clients who could benefit from gift but can't afford them? Can the working ones be warehoused for a short period of time for folks to come and pick up on a designated date?

Can you announce a Spring date NOW? OR ID year round drop off sites? Don't think enough notice was given and it would be great to have some place to be a regular dropoff site.

Thanks,

I live out on Long Island and it seems nothing is close to were I can drop my old tv set off at. I am not very good at driving into Manhatten and its far for me to go.

I Live in Astoria Queens, and the place I used to take my electronics to no longer accepts them because of the cost. Thank you for setting up the drive but honestly it's a little out of my way and this weekend is not convenient for me. I have a rather large CRT that I need to get rid of and frankly I'm not going to lug it on the subway. I can walk it across Astoria, I can not walk it to the end of long island. Not all of us own cars. Its also a big city, we're not the midwest. Not all of us work nine to five.

Also, given the latest 60 minutes program, how can I be assured that international recycling won't just dump my CRT in some illegal Chinese land-fill while singing their own praises about being such great stewards of the environment?

when we get there, will the street be closed? Can we pull up in our car since we will have lots of heavy stuff or do we have to walk the items in? Where can we park?

What about cables and wires?
