President-elect Barack Obama's team sent out an e-mail earlier this week to people on his campaign's giant e-mail list, inviting them to send in their own ideas about energy and the environment. They want to harness the change Americans seem to crave on this front, the spirit that may have helped them win a couple of weeks ago. They want to harness us.

Subsidize solar pannel costs so that we can recharge our electric cars from the roofs of our single family homes, not to mention sell back excess energy thus creating a whole grid of creating power for us all.

Require states to decouple utility profits from electricity sales, freeing them to make money off of efficiency and other low-cost means of providing capacity. California has done that and as a result Californians use around 40% less electricity per capita than the average American for equivalent lifestyles. Thus Californians spend around $900 per capita while the rest of us spend around $1100. The difference between $900 and 60% of $1100 is the what Californians pay for the investment the utilities have made in paying for solar collectors on rooftops of residences and factories and other investments in efficiency. It is thus the utilities that are putting up the "front money" for efficiency savings. This works for renters etc., whose landlords would have no direct interest in insulating their properties when they are not paying the heating costs, etc.

The other thing would be for NBC to reverse its decision to fire the Global Warming group at The Weather Channel and instead enlarge it so that they could inform the general public that going Green is economical and EVERYONE can save by doing it! Make it a PERMANENT part of its nightly newscasts. I no longer watch ANY of the broadcast nightly newscasts because, with only 22 minutes, they are so shallow that it is not worth the time. Just watch The News Hour with Jim Lehrer on PBS for more in-depth news.

Please do not bail out detroit auto manufactures, unless they go all green. I studied the politics of the Big Auto Business earning a Poly Sci degree. They are a big reason the global warming is occurring and have to be held accountable, Help them and help us by stopping out dependence on fossil fuels. And made them plant trees at the rate the are being destroyed around the equator.
Way to do we have to save everybdoy -they cna just go bankrupt. I had to = I have a small businees, and the government wouldn't help me.

Why should we bail out the auto industry. They have known for years how to make cars more fuel effecient & hidden it from the public. Bail us out instead. The money would be used to stimulate the economy by paying down home mortgages, paying off credit cards stabilizing banks, creditors & financial institutions and purchasing products. Let's try the trickle up method. The trickle down hasn't worked & corporate America has shown it's disrespect for our hard earned cash with exorbitant spending.
