I thought the quote of that entire speach that exemplified what we as a nation need to do in order to get back on our feet and move into a 'greener' economy was; "minor victories". SO true!
Hickory Chair Company was awarded the Furniture industries first SAGE award sponsored by the American Homefurnishings Association and Cargill.
Our 550 Employees implemented over 1100 waste reduction ideas in 2008 , so far. We reduced landfill waste 178 tons in 2007 and are on pace for an additional 125 ton reduction this year. Through employee ideas we reuse, repurpose, recycle or reclaim cardboard, fabric, leather, plastic, string, aluminum cans, plastic drink bottles, paper, metal, wood, cotton, ink toner, electronic equipmwent, flourescent lamps, batteries, pallets, packaging materials, tooling, foam, and equipment containing mercury.

I want to comment on the wind generation piece you did tonight, 11-17-08. We are having to fight FP&L in our area of the Hill Country of Texas. They want to cut up the most beautiful hilly areas of Texas to put up 15 story towers to move wind power because they overbuilt the farms in north Texas. They are lying to individuals here to try to buy up easements. I can prove this many times over. One of many problems we have with this is that no one is mentioning the very hot lines that nothing grows under and reports of illnessses caused by the magnetic fields. Everyone is behind the alternative power but they don't know the detriment caused to the land and people and animals. The other problem is the underhanded way they are taking advantage of people who will lose value of their property forever and the option of the company to sell it to whoever they want which could mean water rights. Please, please have some of your investigative reporters report on this. We know they are jumping on the bandwagon to make money for the power companies while this is a hot green issue and while people are not informed of what happens to move this power, not to help the invironment. It can't help the invironment if it is so hot, it can't be buried. Again, please have someone check this out and save those of us who have to put up with these companies.
Thank you,
Suzy Stewart
