Green. Never has this color been in the spotlight like it has been recently. Sure we know the Hulk, the Grinch, the 'special' green M&M's...but now green is more universal than ever, and for good reason.
I must admit that I had never been 'involved' in the planets affairs...Sure I planted my trees on Earth Day like every other school kids, but that was about it. Maybe it was because Mother Nature wasn't doing so bad back then. But boy have things changed.
According to the U.S Census Bureau, the world population is expanding at a mind-boggling rate. It's expected that by 2050, the world's population will reach 9 billion! That's a whole lot of people sharing the few natural resources we have left...definitely affecting the standard of living for our kids and grand kids. So, what can we do? How can we help preserve our clean air, our fuel resources and soil?...nothing major really. It's actually quite simple to be 'green'.

At first, I thought I had to re-arrange my whole life in order to help save our Earth, but hey... I couldn't have been more wrong. Instead of buying regular alkaline batteries, I now buy rechargeables. I help eliminate those lethal chemicals from going into our soil in the landfills, and I save money. Win, win situation?... you bet!
Did you know...
- For every ton of paper that is recycled, the following is saved: 7,000 gallons of water; 380 gallons of oil; and enough electricity to power an average house for six months.
- You can run a TV for six hours on the amount of electricity that is saved by recycling one aluminum can.
- By recycling just one glass bottle, you save enough electricity to power a 100-watt bulb for four hours.
There's tons of things to be done to ease the planet's pain...but we all have to do something. Whether it be buying local products, like fruits and vegetables... thus eliminating the fossil fuels needed to transport these items around the country or globe... or changing the thermostat setting on your AC to a couple of degrees lower in the winter and higher in the summer, this translates to a considerable amount of savings on your bills. Shorter showers, yes... go ahead, you can do it... you can save tons of gallons of precious water a year!
So go ahead, join the ranks of the Incredible Hulk, and "Go Green"! The planet will thank you, and you'll become incredible yourself! Remember, it's now or never.
