ask mr. greenHaving Trouble Remembering to BYOB?

Dear Mr. Green,

What's a surefire way of remembering my canvas bag for shopping? I'm pondering stapling it to my hand!

ask mr. greenFight Climate Change with...a Hybrid Car?

mr-green-q-15-image.jpgDear Mr. Green,

I've been wondering, what is the real benefit of a hybrid car when auto emissions are only 5% of the pollution problem and corporate emissions compose the majority of global pollution?

Sincerely,
Considering Corporate Contamination

blogThe Green Glove

green-blog-#57-image.jpgMy mother is coming to visit. I love my Mom. I love her abundant ideas for how I can improve my home, my job, my life. I love them so much that I've spent the last few days re-evaluating everything, stressing out and improving as much as I can, in advance, so I can be ah...flawless.

Mom has a bionic eye for dust bunnies and smeared glass, so the main focus today (and more tomorrow when the real cleaning lady comes) is deep cleaning my home. Thank God for Shaklee!

After trying many different eco-friendly green cleaning products over the years, I switched to Shaklee green cleaning products about 6 months ago and will never switch again. It was such a relief to find a line of products that are truly natural, eco-friendly, non-toxic, plus they are easy to buy online and they really clean well.

blogAn Organic Apple a Day Keeps Doctor Cost Low

By Nicole Ohebshalom, Radiant Living Wellness

dirty_dozen_sm.jpgPeople are switching to more organic foods even though it's costing them a few more dollars. In my practice I have especially seen those dealing with chronic illness and individuals concerned with preventative care to love and revs up the benefits of organic vegetables, fruits, meat and dairy. A key motivation for consumers doing this is a simple belief that it's better for them. People see that if they spend a few more dollars at Whole Foods it will save them more money and time at the doctor's office.

But is it true that there are health benefits to eating organic food?

The US Department of Agriculture have revealed that since the 1940s the mineral levels in fruits, vegetables, meat and dairy have declined substantially in conventional foods. Combine this with pre-ripened picking, longer storage, and more processing of crops, and it's not surprising that we may be getting fewer nutrients in our food than we were 60 years ago. Government tests show that conventionally grown fruits and vegetables can retain up to 13 pesticides even after washing and cooking.

blogGreening the Reunion

By Mary Beth Gonzalez, iVillage.com

My family reunited over Fourth of July weekend to celebrate Pop-Pop's (my dad) 70th birthday. Seventeen Pryors from all across the country gathered together at my parent's beautiful home on Sanibel Island on Florida's west coast. My parents, three brothers and their families joined mine for 5 days of eating, laughing, swimming, kayaking, photo taking and story sharing of our past, present and what we each want for our future.

Since we hadn't all been together in over 7 years, the occasion served as an interesting benchmark for how differently we all think about green today versus 7 years ago when I was first starting on my green path. I found that nearly every aspect of our weekend related somehow to our greener values and lifestyles.

ask mr. greenBirds in the Belfry?

Dear Mr. Green,

We recently put a 2nd floor addition to our home and there is a small gap running along the front of the house under the fascia board. The birds have discovered the gap and have decided to make themselves at home in our home. We've tried to seal the gap with foam insulation and they seem to still be able to get in. Is there a natural bird repellent we can use to keep them out?

Sincerely,
Additionally Pestered

blogThe Story of Stuff

By Nicole Walters, GreenisUniversal.com

Have you ever been to your grandmother's house and seen kitchen appliances that she bought in the 50s that are still kicking?  And what's more, they don't seem like they are going anywhere too quickly.  After I bought my own home a few years ago and started buying newer versions of these appliances I couldn't help but notice the difference between what I was buying and what I had seen growing up with Grandma.  I kind of assumed that since my products had been outsourced to developing countries so that I could buy them cheaper, that was the reason and left it at that.
